BUILDING SCIENCE 1

Project 1:

In a group of 6, we were required to choose a building in klang valley/singapore that features 2 passive design strategies and must be certified and recognized as a green building.

My group chose Wisma Rehda located at Kelana Jaya. We called the place and arranged meeting dates for us to have research and a guide to walk us through the building. Our building chosen has passive design strategieswhich can perform best in tropical climate and achieve thermal comfort for the users.

Addition to that, we learnt to use computer softwares that can provide us with help such as rhinoceros, 3dsmax, revit and vasari to aid in the 3d modeling. With the 3d model and simulations, we can prove that the passive design strategies is effective in this building. We were able to simulate both wind movement and also the shadow to see if the shading device is working efficiently.

Below are my group's work:

REFLECTION

By completing this project, I am able to identify environmental conditions relating to site and climate. This has helped me further understand the shading devices and also the wind movement throughout buildings. By understanding how to create shading devices, I can apply them to my other projects.

I have learnt that having double facades and also open-air circulation has effects on thermal comfort. And thus by applying what I learnt here, I applied it into my project and created double facades and also has stack effect to help ventilate the building. By using Vasari and Revit, it was helpful to help me adjust my building to the sun path and also the wind movement.

But as an architect, a building must come second to human comfort and thus learning Building Science has enlightened me on how to control these factors.
